In late September, brand experts Interbrand released its list of Best Global Brands for 2013 based on three key factors: financial performance, influence on consumers, and the strength of the brand to command a premium price or secure earnings for the company.
For the first time in 13 years, Coca-Cola was not the top company. In fact, it dropped to number three behind Apple and Google.
Interbrand recognized the top rising brands for the year as Facebook, Google, Prada, Apple and Amazon.
While technology companies still reign as the dominant sector on the list, some specific tech brands suffered major drops. Yahoo and Blackberry fell off the list entirely, while Nokia, Nintendo and Dell experienced large declines in brand value.
Other observations are that financial service brands experienced an uptick, as did the automobile industry (14 of the top 100 global brands are from the automotive sector).
Following are the top 20 global brands from the list. For the full list, visit http://www.interbrand.com/en/best-global-brands/2013/Best-Global-Brands-2013.aspx
